What happens when a rug becomes a canvas for creativity? For Dutch Design Week, designers Marieke Bos and Tessa de Guytenaer reimagined four Volero classics with complete creative freedom.

The result? Two unique designs, both named Rooted.

Four classics, two interpretations. Four rugs, each with its own shapes, colours and character. Marieke and Tessa took these familiar designs and transformed them into something entirely new. One starting point, two creative perspectives.

Two designers, one name

Working independently, Marieke and Tessa both chose the name Rooted.

For Marieke, it represents grounding, slowing down and growing from a strong foundation. For Tessa, it's an organic network of connecting shapes, lines and colours.

From sketch to floor

How a Dutch Design rug comes to life

The design

Every pattern starts with a designer in the Netherlands. With pencil, brush or tablet, and inspired by what's close by: old tiles, wild flowers, a summer by the sea.

The colour

Each design comes in several colourways, from soft cream to deep terracotta. So the same pattern fits a light, calm interior and a warm, layered home.

The print

We print the design in Europe on a soft base rug. So every line stays sharp and every colour looks exactly as the designer intended.

From 17 to 25 October, Volero joins Dutch Design Week in Eindhoven.

Under the theme R.A.W. (Rebel Authentic Worth), DDW celebrates raw creativity, experimentation and challenging conventions. With Rugs as a Canvas, we bring this spirit to life through two unique designs and the stories behind them.
